- 6 cups (4-5 apples) Granny Smith apples (peeled and chopped)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- pinch nutmeg
- pinch salt
- 2 cups water (may need to add more)
- Toss apples in lemon juice in a bowl. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugars, cornstarch and spices. Pour in water.
- Cook over medium heat until boiling. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add apples, bring back to boil. Simmer until tender. (Original recipe says 10-15 minutes but mine simmered for much longer.) Add additional water as necessary.
